Jharkhand fights for roads, electricity, water and education

Cheruatari village is just 35 km from the capital of Jharkhand. It is facing a huge shortage of basic facilities like roads, electricity and water. On Friday (29.03.2024), the villagers said that every day women have to travel up to 2 km for water.

The villagers measure the rocky paths and thorny trails 5 to 7 times a day. Piarki Devi, who is elderly, says that ever since she came to the village after marriage, she has been struggling for water. One day she slipped and fell while fetching water, due to which her teeth also broke.

People have to go out of their homes to use toilets, which are a part of daily activities. The government has constructed toilets, but there is no water facility. There is a saying that computers were given to the entire village, but electricity was not provided to the village.

Sarita Devi says, people from all parties come to our village to seek votes during election campaigns and make all sorts of promises but nothing happens.

The villagers said that there were no houses, roads, electricity, water and schools for the children. They have decided not to vote in the Lok Sabha elections to be held on 19 April this year.

This ground reality is not limited to the state capital only, but in many villages of Jharkhand, people are struggling with basic facilities. People are spending most of their lives collecting water.

In many villages of Jharkhand, there are roads in the name of development, but in a dilapidated state, there are houses, but those too are almost non-existent, schools are open, but there is a huge shortage of teachers, from drinking water to medical facilities, everything is at a standstill.

The promise-making parties of the world are ready to knock on the door once again. The people who have grown old listening to the promises are now slowly beginning to recognize the false faces of politics.
