Silence on the death of workers
A laborer died after falling into a septic tank On the morning of 27.03.2024 in tannery while cleaning it in Jajmau, Kanpur. The people who contribute their part in keeping the country clean, beautiful and healthy, who are the working class working at construction sites, mines or cleaning sewage, are not even called by their name with respect by most of the people in society. That is why they are not visible even though they are present everywhere in society.
According to the data of the Directorate General of Factory Advice Service and Labor Institutes (DGFASLI) of the Ministry of Labour and Employment, on an average three people died and 11 were injured every day between 2017 and 2022 due to accidents in registered factories in the country. There are a very large number of such cases which actually never get recorded. For example, in a village in Jharkhand, the only working boy in a family who is about 29 years of age earns money by working as a laborer in house construction, but one day while working at the construction site he falls from the roof and dies. Had there been safety arrangements at the construction site, then that boy would have been alive today.
In a town, village or city, a contractor or mason who builds a house often plays with the lives of the workers working there in order to earn profit. They never provide them with any safety system to protect them from accidents during work.
My friend Deepesh, who works in a reputed company, told me that this company takes care of the safety system and also makes people aware from time to time. Then he said that some companies do not have basic safety facilities. If someone gets injured, then the report of those workers is never registered so that the name of the company does not get spoiled.
Recent incidents,
On March 1, 2024, three employees died due to poisonous gas while cleaning a sewer hole in Hyderabad.
On February 29, 2024, two employees died and one was injured due to the collapse of a 15-year-old overhead water reservoir in Cooch Behar.
Data is released every year in the country, but it is ignored. There is a section which is really always ready for improvement in the society.
People working in our country will have to learn the etiquette of behaving respectfully towards every class of laborers, rickshaw pullers or farmers, whoever is elder or younger than us.
