The President has given final approval to the Uniform Civil Code
Under Article 201 of the Constitution of India, the President has given assent to the ‘Uniform Civil Code Uttarakhand 2024’ Bill passed by the Uttarakhand Assembly on March 11, 2024, Available in the Gazette Notification issued by the State of Uttarakhand on 13.3.2024.
Uttarakhand has now become the first state in independent India to have a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Act. This keeps tribals out of its scope and imposes a complete ban on practices, which leads to inequality in social welfare and does not accelerate development. This law is a means of keeping everyone within one ambit, which will promote development.
The Uttarakhand Assembly passed the bill on February 7, 2024, which ensures that women get equality in property and inheritance rights.
